The East Montgomery County Fair Scholarship is designed to recognize and support outstanding graduating seniors from New Caney, Porter, and Splendora High Schools who have demonstrated dedication, leadership, and involvement in agricultural youth programs and fair activities throughout their high school career.

This scholarship opportunity is available to graduating seniors who are active members of 4-H or FFA and have actively participated in the East Montgomery County Fair Association during all four years of high school. Through their involvement, these students have shown commitment to agriculture, community service, responsibility, and the values that the East Montgomery County Fair strives to promote.

The East Montgomery County Fair is proud to invest in the future of local youth by helping deserving students further their education and pursue their goals beyond high school.

Scholarship Criteria

1. The scholarship shall be offered to any graduating New Caney, Porter or Splendora High School senior who is anactive member in 4H or FFA and has actively participated in the EMCFA during their 4 high school years.

2. There will be a minimum of three (3) scholarships awarded annually: one to a New Caney, Porter and Splendora graduating senior. The number and amount of the scholarships awarded may be increased upon recommendation of the scholarship committee and vote of the membership. If there is not an applicant from one of the schools, both scholarships may be awarded to another school.

3. This scholarship must be used for tuition and fees at any recognized institution of higher learning. The recipient must apply for the first full semester following graduation from high school. Students must maintain 12 credit hours each semester to be considered full time status.

4. All scholarships will be paid directly to the college in equal installments over 2 semesters a year. Any hardship created by this can be reviewed by the scholarship committee and exceptions can be made. Prior to the first semester, the applicant must submit a transcript and registration receipt for the semester. During the first semester, the student(s) must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0. The student must present a transcript of the first semester grades and a registration receipt for the second semester within thirty (30) days after receiving the first semester grades. A student becomes ineligible if, at any time, their grade point average falls below the above-mentioned requirements or upon voluntary withdrawal or suspension. Once a student becomes ineligible their scholarship is automatically terminated, and the applicant may not reapply. All proof of enrollment is due within thirty (30) days of registration and/or receiving grades or scholarship will be forfeited If funds are forfeited, funds may be used for the next available applicant.

5. This scholarship will not be awarded to any student who is a recipient of a full scholarship from another source. A full scholarship denotes all the following: room & board, books, and tuition.

6. Requirements of applicants: Applications are online on the EMCFA.org website under Scholarships. It is the student’s responsibility to get their application from the website. A. Submit completed application to one of the FFA advisors by April 8th. B. Attach a copy of the official and sealed high school transcript. C. Attach copy of ACT or SAT test scores D. All applications must be filled out completely. Incomplete application will be returned and not considered.

7. The following criteria will be used to evaluate each applicant:

A. FFA or 4H involvement: 15 points
B. SAT or ACT composite scores 12 points
C. Grade Point Average (GPA) 12 points
D. Student curriculum 10 points
E. Character references (3) 2pt each 6 points
F. Honors and awards 10 points
G. Essay: 10 points
H. Project exhibited during High School years 25 points Total possible points: 100 points

9. Any ties will be determined by the interview process. The interviews will be set up by the scholarship chairperson with FFA Advisors or 4-H Leaders.
